course

Certification:

Despite being FREE, both the full and half marathon race courses are USATF certified allowing you to use your marathon time to qualify for the Boston Marathon.  Click the certificate to see the certified map.

Full marathon certificate:  VT20004JK    Half marathon certificate: VT20003JK

Course Description:

The half marathon completes one full loop of the course.  The full marathon completes two full loops of the course.  Both races start and end in the same location.  Racers will start in downtown Island Pond, and head out to make a counter clockwise loop, plus a spur, around the lake.  Pavement for the first 2 miles, beautiful gravel for the next 4 miles and then back to pavement for the remainder.  Runners will get lake and mountain views in multiple locations.

While there will be traffic guards and volunteers in multiple locations, roads will be open to traffic as usual.  Runners should use the left edge of road and use common sense regarding safety.

See turn by turn directions below.

Aid Stations:

As the race is free, aid will be limited.  Water stops will be available at start/finish/half and 4, 10, 17, 23 mile mark.  It is possible more aid stations will pop up and be available, however runners should plan accordingly.

Port-o-lets at start/finish/5.5 and 10 mile mark.

Remember, it’s a great idea to bring friends and family not only to support you along the course, but also to provide aid stations.  We just remind everyone to be mindful of resident’s property and leave no trace!

Elevation:

This challenging course offers a bit of everything with some short steep hills, gradual climbs and gentle downhills.

The elevation profile below is for the half marathon (one loop of the course).  Full marathon will complete two loops.
