Northeast Kingdom Marathon

Island Pond, VT

run free - because the power of giving is worth chasing

The Northeast Kingdom Marathon is a FREE USATF certified self-supported half/full marathon designed to support Island Pond – a small former railroad town nestled deep within the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.  Following the lead of the innovative Millinocket Marathon – runners who participate are asked to be generous and support the Island Pond community and surrounding region in every way possible.

The act of giving can empower, uplift and restore.  We think that’s worth running 26.2 miles for.

race basics

- you'll get from this race what you give -

What we provide

A FREE, USATF certified 13.1 mile half marathon and 26.2 mile full marathon course, with professional chip timing and port-o-lets.  A beautiful setting, a memorable weekend of events, and the opportunity to support a community.

Upon registering, you will have the opportunity to purchase a finishers medal and t-shirt directly from local artisans.

What we ask of you:

Take advantage of a free entry fee and spend that money in town supporting Island Pond.  Tip generously, stay an extra night, visit our local shops and stores, donate to one of our local fundraisers.

Arrange for your own aid stations – carry what you need or have your friends and family set up a pop up aid station! While there may be fluids and food on the course, all runners must plan to be independent.  Be respectful and leave no trace!

Please honor your registration.  Even though the race is free to register, races carry inherent safety costs, and we budget for every runner that signs up.  Please cancel your registration in advance if you’re unable to attend – thank you!

thank you

We want to express a tremendous amount of gratitude to Gary Allen and Crow Athletics, our in-kind sponsor.  www.crowathletics.com

While we feel proud to be offering a race in the spirit of giving, it was Gary Allen’s innovative ideas, and Crow Athletic’s Millinocket Marathon that inspired us, guided us, and laid the groundwork for an event where you race to empower, uplift, and restore.

We want to thank Community National Bank for their generous support!  With a branch located right in downtown Island Pond, CNB has strong ties to the Island Pond community and is helping the NEK Marathon realize it’s goals.

The NEK Marathon wouldn’t be possible without the support of our new partner, Sweet Tree.  Rooted strongly in Island Pond and the surrounding forest region, Sweet Tree’s commitment to supporting our local event allows the NEK Marathon to reach it’s full potential.  Thank you Sweet Tree!
